SIX GOOD REASONS TO TAKE PART IN THE INNOVATION CONTEST OF KIT

In 2023, the NEULAND Innovation Contest enters its 11th round. KIT scientific employees can submit their ideas for technological products or processes to the Innovation and Relations Management until 31 March. Besides the many obligations in research and teaching, this could be seen as an idle additional task. Or as an opportunity for new perspectives and impulses for one's own field of research. We have collected six reasons why it is worthwhile for scientists to submit an application.

1. The application is uncomplicated

The most difficult thing about submitting to the competition is to keep it short. A maximum of 4,ooo characters and two images are available in the application form to present the brilliant idea to the jury. But this also means that if you manage to formulate the core and advantages of your technology, you will be done really quickly. Send the form to Innovation Manager Dr. Rainer Körber - done!

2. The jury is from the industry

If you are thinking about transfer, you need feedback and impulses from the business community on the potential of your technology. The jury of the innovation competition is made up exclusively of company representatives who perform this task in a committed and voluntary capacity. The forwarding of applications as well as the jury meeting and further voting is organised by the Technology Transfer Team at IRM, but only the jury is entitled to vote.

After a two-year digital version, the 2022 jury meeting finally took place in person again. The participants had a lively discussion about the almost 30 ideas submitted. 3. Winning pays of several times

On the other hand, the award helps to get started in the topic of technology transfer and offers new perspectives and impulses for one's own field of research. For example, the innovation managers from Technology Transfer Team offer further advice and support to the winners after the award ceremony, if desired. This may involve, for example, the financing of prototypes, the search for industrial partners or an initial orientation for possible transfer paths.

4. The award ceremony remains exciting until the last moment

In the even years, the award ceremony will take place on the stage of the Innovation Day NEULAND, in the odd years, in which no Innovation Day takes place, we will offer an adequate substitute for a dignified award ceremony. The winners can not only meet the jury and the sponsors of the competition, the Vice President for Transfer and International Affairs of KIT, Prof. Thomas Hirth, as well as the Technology Transfer Team will be present to toast your success.

5. You can attract supporters

The jury, the sponsors, the Technology Transfer Team of KIT, the spectators at the award ceremony - your research area will receive at least as much attention. In addition, we report on the winning technologies not only in the review of the award ceremony, but also publish them on the RESEARCH TO BUSINESS technology exchange and support you in publicising the research field in various media, at events and in social media.

6. Best Case Transfer Award

Anyone who has a really good idea and implements it in a cooperation after the Innovation Contest can, in the best case, also win the second competition category, the Transfer Prize, at some point: This is awarded to particularly successful transfer projects with an industrial partner. These also started as ideas!

Perhaps you know one of the winners of the ten previous contest rounds and can ask them if there are any other good reasons? You still have until 31 March 2023 to submit your application. As every year, the Technology Transfer Team of KIT Innovation and Relations Management and the jury are looking forward to your creative ideas!
