PORTRAIT - ROBOTS WITH SENSITIVITY

PROF. BJOERN HEIN

Prof. Bjoern Hein studied electrical engineering and received his Ph. D. in computer science in the field of robotics from the former University of Karlsruhe in 2003. Since 2000, he has been working at the Institute of Anthropomatics and Robotics (IAR) in the research laboratory Intelligent Process Automation and Robotics (IPR), conducting research in the fields of industrial and service robotics.

His research focuses on sensor-based systems, especially in human-machine interactions. Current projects are dedicated to the perception of dynamic and unstructured environments by assistant robots and the safe interaction between humans and machines in the field of logistics, for example in warehouses.

Since 2002, Prof. Hein has also been involved in teaching at KIT, since 2012 as habilitated professor.

HOSAM ALAGI

M.Sc. Hosam Alagi graduated in "Electrical Engineering and Information Technology" at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. Since August 2015, he has been employed as a research associate at the Institute of Anthropomatics and Robotics (IAR) in the Intelligent Process Automation and Robotics (IPR) research laboratory.

Focusing on human-robot interaction, he develops capacitive multi-modal sensors and evaluates methodology for robots to perceive their immediate environment. Large-scale sensor-lined robots and robotic tools should support collaborative work and safe human-robot interaction in many domains.
