In the summer of 2023, the Volksbühne of the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe staged the science performance "Nerds Save the World" six times on KIT's South Campus. Current KIT research topics from the fields of mobility, artificial intelligence, energy, climate and the environment formed the basis for the performance. Discussions with KIT scientists led to a mix of video installation and performance. One of the reasons given for the award was the uniqueness of the project: "With 'Nerds Save the World', an innovative project to bridge the gap between art and science was realized. The sold-out performances testify to its great success and have brought KIT research closer to a wide audience."
