Protection against fake shops through early detection

The INSPECTION project, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR), has developed a comprehensive solution to combat manipulated websites and fake shops.

Manipulated websites and fake shops are often impossible for site owners to detect: Many small and medium-sized enterprises lack the technical resources to identify security gaps or determine whether their site has been hacked. For those affected, this leads to reputational damage, financial losses and confused customers. The BMFTR-funded INSPECTION project has developed a comprehensive solution. The consortium, comprising the KIT research group SECUSO and the companies mindUp Web + Intelligence GmbH and BDO AG, combines automated web analysis for detecting compromised sites with targeted notification strategies and practical awareness measures. The solution include, among other things, systematic monitoring of search engine results, human-centered design approaches for effective communication and comprehensive incidentresponse procedures. During the project period, website operators were proactively informed by INSPECTION and simultaneously received specific guidance on remediation and future protection. As a result, companies can strengthen their digital security, minimize damage and maintain the trust of their customers.
