Noxon: Intelligent Braces Support the Healing Process

Printed, flexible biosensors capture muscle activity and feed it to a cloud‑based app, allowing real‑time, personalized therapy. The technology is intended to enable new mobility and improve orthopedic treatment in the long term.

Back pain or knee pain often requires a long rehabilitation. The start-up Noxon develops intelligent braces with printed biosensors that make healing processes visible and accelerate them. The sensors capture muscle activity through the skin and transmit the data to an app. This allows patients to work with
their doctors to tailor their treatment plan individually. The sensor technology is produced with resourcesaving printing processes, making it flexible, stretchable and cost-effective. Noxon tested its first prototypes with shirts for analyzing back pain. The focus has now shifted to knee braces that support recovery after injuries or surgeries. In the long term, the team wants to personalize manufacturing using 3D scans: Within one minute, the biosensor technology should be adaptable to the respective body part. With this technology, Noxon wants to enable new mobility for those affected and sustainably improve orthopedic treatment.
