RoofKIT wins international university competition
As part of the RoofKIT project, students and employees of various KIT departments have spent two years dealing with the challenges of the energy transition in the construction industry. Based on the knowledge gained, they have designed an energy-efficient as well as cycle-compatible building and built it in Wuppertal. The building, which uses only renewable energies and was created in harmony with ecological, economic, social and aesthetic aspects, is composed of prefabricated modules. These have enabled a fast, efficient and cost-effective construction process. The use of flexible floor plans in conjunction with a sharing economy concept ensures optimal use of space. The modular design also takes into account the adaptation of the building to the needs of the residents. With the concept, the team won first place in the international university building competition Solar Decathlon Europe 21/22. The building project was relocated from Wuppertal to the KIT site in early 2023, where it will be available to various research projects for the next three years.
