CAIRT: The Changing-Atmosphere Infra-Red Tomography Explorer
Climate, weather and air quality are directly related with the changing composition of the atmosphere. With the satellite concept CAIRT (The Changing-Atmosphere Infra-Red Tomography Explorer), KIT researchers together with other partners want to investigate emissions and ozone-depleting substances with effects on the Earth's atmosphere and thus enable reliable predictions. The infrared tomography experiment has been considered as one of four proposals for a mission for scientific Earth observation by the European Space Agency (ESA) to start in about ten years. The infrared measurements provide a detailed picture of the internal state of the atmosphere - from the ground to the edge of space.
