WHAT HAPPENED TO… „SIMUTENCE“

In 2019, the spin-off Simutence started with software add-ons for the simulation of fibre composite structures for lightweight construction in order to accelerate the industrial production process of these components, especially in the automotive sector, and to minimize risks. Five years later, we take a look at the young company from KIT, which has successfully survived the Covid-19 crisis and continues to dedicate itself to sustainable production with a focus on simulating the extrusion of long fiber and the forming of continuous fiber composites. Where does Simutence stand today?

In addition to the automotive industry as the main market, aviation has become an important second mainstay. The Add-ons software, which supports companies in the virtual design and construction of fiber composite components and maps the entire manufacturing process chain, was further developed by the founders. The team also provides its customers with quick and easy access to the simulation results using a specially developed digital twin, which is offered via the company's own "Simutence Hub" platform. Simutence works closely with customers, provides support using state-of-the-art research methods, carries out simulations as a service, evaluates results and thus provides significant assistance in solving problems as part of a consultancy service. In addition to the automotive and aviation industries, the company has also demonstrated the added value of its technology in other sectors, including electromobility in the field of battery protection, in the public sector in the future design of street lamps and in the furniture industry, as well as in the construction of pallets made from recycled materials.

The company has grown organically over time. Simutence hired its first permanent employee in 2021. Today, the company employs five full-time engineers and three working students. Enough power to fully integrate additional web applications into the Simutence Hub in the near future and thus provide its customers with quick and easy access to simulation in the future.
